The new ASB Theatre Marlborough, which is due to open in early 2016, is a multi-use and purpose built venue. It is situated overlooking Blenheim's Taylor River. This new facility, located in Blenheim's CBD, is conveniently located adjacent to the Marlborough Convention Centre. It will house two theatres (700 & 200 seats) and naturally lit function space and foyers. This will mean that you can come and enjoy all that Marlborough has to offer while enjoying the comfort of this new outstanding venue. It will offer state-of-the-art facilities and amenities for your Live Performance, Performing Arts, Conferences and Function events.
FRONT OF HOUSE
Elegant public foyers will allow for easy access for the two theatres. These foyers allow for greater public access and will be highly visible from the street. They will be used for pre and post functions, as public meeting rooms, and to display artworks.
The main auditorium will have new seating increasing in capacity theatre experience in the main auditorium.
An additional studio theatre will seat up to 200 people. A flexible space opening off the foyer with large access door off the scene dock.
In comparison to the current Floor Pride Civic Theatre, there will be an increased number of toilets, improved egress for emergencies, and regulation disabled access.
A commercial kitchen will be installed service all spaces.
BACK OF HOUSE
A green room, dressing rooms for up to 60 people, toilet and bathroom facilities in line with performers’ expectations and disabled access and facilities.
Orchestra/Choral assembly room; laundry and wardrobe areas; an under-stage trap room; and good access to the performance space.
There will be a large scene dock plus a lift for movement of equipment from basement to fly floor.
A loading dock at truck deck height will provide ease of loading.
There will be a safe and accessible stage door entrance, a large and spacious scene dock and wing space, and an orchestra pit with automated ease of installing or creating a thrust stage.
